Overview

The Consumer Lending team at UW Credit Union is growing!  We are hiring for a Consumer Lending Specialist level II to join our team, and help our members achieve their financial dreams! This position is Spanish Bilingual preferred, our Spanish-bilingual employees in member facing roles receive an additional $1.25 per hour premium. 

 

As the Consumer Lending Specialist, along with your teammates, you will play a vital role in the review and approval of member consumer loan applications.  UW Credit Union members rely on your expertise and decision-making skills to guide them in the right financial direction.  Communication skills are key – as all of your member interaction will be via phone or email.  You will also be tasked with identifying and successfully referring additional UW Credit Union lending products or services that may benefit members.  If you are an adaptable and driven professional, who enjoys making a difference while having fun at work, this is the job for you!

Responsibilities

  • Consistently use needs based consultative-style interactions to identify and recommend additional products that will enhance and protect member loans and credit.
  • Maintain deep knowledge in all consumer loan programs and processes, ensuring quality service and accuracy is delivered to UWCU members.
  • Responsible for scorecard goals including: loan volumes, booking efficiency, loan delinquency and overall loan portfolio performance.
  • Vigilant awareness responding to loan volumes, service levels and channels while maintaining department service standards.
  • Complete loan closings in a timely fashion based on membership preferred delivery channel and timing.
  • Understand key elements of member loan programs. Review applications for potential risk; make recommendations for exceptions to underwriting guidelines when appropriate.
  • Consistently educate members about their loan product choices. Analyze member needs, and make consistent recommendations on loan products and services.
  • Maintain a high degree of knowledge in all credit union programs, ensuring quality service and accuracy is delivered to UWCU members and employees

Qualifications

These skills and experience are essential to your success:

  • 2-3 years of experience in consumer lending/underwriting. Candidates will less experience will be considered for a level 1 role. 
  • Developing analytical, accuracy, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong presentation, telephone, oral and written communication skills.
  • Agility to multi-task and negotiate multiple applications in succession with general proficiency
  • Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to represent a professional image.
  • Knowledge of most lending laws, concepts and practices
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of effective consumer lending processing requirements.
  • Strong proficiency in personal computer skills including the use of Internet and MS Office software applications.
