Overview

UW Credit Union has a great opportunity for an individual aspiring to pursue a career in the information technology field. The IT Infrastructure Intern will be responsible for assisting the IT End User Services team with building and deploying laptops, desktops and VDI (virtual desktop) computing solutions. The IT Infrastructure Intern will also be involved with other occasional projects involving the deployment, support or recycling of network, computing, or mobile devices utilized by our end users. This is a great opportunity to learn technology, customer service and support, end user documentation authoring, process development and general business skills!

 

The individual will work up to 40 hours a week during the summer months and a minimum of 10 hours a week, ideally 15-20 hours per week during the school semester. These hours can be flexible to meet your school needs.

Responsibilities

What You’ll Do

Prepare and Deploy IT Hardware - 50%

Assist the End User Services team by:

  • Receiving new hardware and accurately tracking inventory.
  • Imaging laptops and desktop computers according to established procedures.
  • Installing and testing hardware to ensure proper functionality.
  • Collaborating with end users to schedule installations and provide troubleshooting support as needed.

Office Moves - 20%

Support staff during office relocations by:

  • Following a predetermined moving plan and schedule to minimize disruptions.
  • Disconnecting and reconnecting PCs, monitors, and peripherals in accordance with relocation requirements.
  • Documenting cable and switch-port details to facilitate efficient setup in the new locations.                  

PC Replacements - 30%

Managing the replacement process for desktop hardware by:

  • Coordinating and scheduling the replacement of end users’ desktop Pcs in a timely manner.
  • Following documented procedures to decommission old PCs, ensuring data security and hardware disposal compliance.
  • Collaborating with end users to validate that new equipment meets their requirements and resolves any issues to their satisfaction.

Qualifications

What You’ll Need to Succeed

  • Pursuing associates or bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office applications, and Outlook
  • Experience in providing exceptional customer service or support
  • Ability to demonstrate strong interpersonal skill, communicate clearly and interact professionally with other employees
