As our User Experience Designer, you'll help shape and mature the design of user experience of UW Credit Union's digital channels, focusing on user flows, interaction design, and experience innovation – with an emphasis on usability, accessibility, and inclusion. Additionally, you’ll help to build, standardize, use and support the UI component library. With a keen eye for detail and a commitment to excellence, you'll ensure adherence to the UW Credit Union brand while collaborating closely with stakeholders and engineers to design innovative and industry-leading experiences. This is a hybrid position requiring two days a week onsite at our Madison, WI headquarters.

Responsibilities

  • Design user experiences for UW Credit Union's web applications and mobile apps.
  • Develop and communicate user experience requirements with user experience (UX) deliverables, such as sketches, wireframes, low and high-fidelity prototypes, information architecture and workflow diagrams. 
  • Design and build pre-production prototypes of web applications and mobile apps using Figma and other design tools. 
  • Use web analytics data and conduct user research, such as card sorts and usability tests, to inform UX designs.
  • Maintain a UI component library with a focus on usability and accessibility. Make recommendations for rules of use of UI components.
  • Understand and utilize the tools, technologies and techniques for creating industry-leading web browser and mobile based applications.
  • Demonstrate dedication to user-centered design and strive to deliver the highest quality digital member experiences. Pursue a deep understanding of, and consistently apply, UX best practices to new and existing projects.
  • Practice an iterative and agile user experience design process by adapting to feedback and new information throughout the design cycle.
  • Seek outside viewpoints and use qualitative and quantitative data to refine and improve user interface designs.
  • Make recommendations to improve the effectiveness of UX deliverables and processes.
  • Provide prompt, courteous and quality UX support to engineers and internal stakeholders.
  • Partner with engineers and internal stakeholders to design experiences which meet technical, business and user needs.
  • Collaborate frequently with engineers during development to provide design oversight and assure final products achieve the desired user experience.
  • Serve as resource to other team members regarding UX best practices and UW Credit Union’s UX processes and methodologies.
  • Partner with Marketing to ensure digital experiences, including the digital style guide, maintain UX and brand integrity.
  • Nurture a greater understanding of UX processes and demonstrate the value of UX to engineers and internal stakeholders.
  • Maintain an in-depth knowledge of new tools, processes and technologies for user experience design, user research and analytics, and advise Internet Services Leadership on their adoption.
  • Comfortable with collecting, synthesizing and using web analytics data to communicate user insights, identify usage patterns and make recommendations to improve our web applications and mobile apps. 
  • Assist with the design and execution of user research, including experience benchmark tests and reporting, to identify trends and make recommendations to improve the user experience of our web applications and mobile apps.
  • Practice an iterative and agile user experience design process by adapting to feedback and new information throughout the design cycle.
  • Actively solicit design feedback from stakeholders, the design team, and the development team and use it to iterate options throughout the design cycle. 

Qualifications

  • 3+ years’ experience in UX Design
  • Bachelor’s degree in design, human-computer interaction, related field or equivalent experience required
  • Agile project management methodology experience is preferred
  • Experience working with Figma is highly desired
  • Expertise in research, analysis, problem solving, design and delivery of Web-based solutions.
  • Familiarity with the UX Design process and use of design tools to craft production ready experiences.
  • Familiarity with CSS/SCSS.
  • Familiarity with JavaScript.
  • Experience in e-Commerce Web site management preferred.
  • Knowledge of major Web browsers and the capabilities and limitations of each.
  • Knowledge of current and emerging web development tools.
  • Talent and passion for technology, automation, and process improvement.
  • Must be a clear and effective communicator.
