Overview

The Staff Auditor works under the direction of the Audit Manager in providing an objective assessment of the effectiveness of UW Credit Union operational processes, procedures, controls and systems. This position performs continuous review of internal systems to ensure they are functioning as designed, and that current procedures comply with federal laws and regulations and internal policies.

 

The Staff Auditor is responsible for maintaining a high level of knowledge regarding Branch Operations, loan and deposit systems, policies and processes. The Staff Auditor reviews member and internal staff activity on a continuous basis for accuracy and appropriate transaction authority, and promptly reports non-compliance. This position assists in ensuring the completion of audit findings reported by internal audit.

 

This position must strictly adhere to credit union confidentiality standards. The Staff Auditor must effectively carry out the essential duties of this position in a manner that consistently demonstrates the core values of the Organization in a positive manner.

Responsibilities

1) Branch Audits - 40%

a. Complete branch audits to ensure consistent processes and procedures are followed, as stated in the Branch Audit Program.

b. Observe and walk through processes with branch staff and management.

c. Communicate observations with branch management during fieldwork.

d. Provide feedback on opportunities to improve processes and increase consistency in branch operations.

e. Assist in writing reports issued by the department.

f. Continuously identifies opportunities for more efficient completion of quality review activities.

 

2) Monitoring - 30%

a. Review reports from the database monitoring system to identify unusual, suspicious and/or fraudulent activity.

b. Review file maintenance activity on a regular basis through the use of various loan and deposit exception reports.

c. Follow up on exceptions and report findings as needed.

 

3) Consumer Loan Reviews - 20%

a. Review consumer loans originated throughout the credit union for reasonableness of interest rates and loan terms on new loans and recommends follow up as needed.

b. Assist in review consumer loans originated throughout the credit union for compliance with documentation procedures, underwriting guidelines, and board policies.

c. Assist in writing reports issued by the department.

d. Continuously identifies opportunities for more efficient completion of quality review activities.

 

4) Quality Assurance - Other - 10%

a. Assist in the completion of required annual audits such as the Customer Identification Program and Confidential Information.

b. Assist in monitoring information regarding the completion of audit recommendations from the Audit Department, which requires ongoing follow up with varying levels of management.

c. Assist in writing reports issued by the department.

d. Provide assistance to internal audit firm as part of completing their annual audit plan.

e. Assist on special investigations at the request of management.

f. Continuously identifies opportunities for more efficient completion of quality review activities.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must demonstrate regular, predictable attendance and be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

 

Education and/or Experience:

-Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting or related field.

-Two to three years of experience within financial institutions in at least one of the following preferred areas: accounting, auditing, loan underwriting, operations, project management, and/or deposit account management and review.

-Demonstrated analytical, problem-solving, and leadership skills.

-Knowledge of fundamental loan and deposit programs, concepts and practices.

-Knowledge of internal controls procedures and the ability to analyze and interpret their application.

-Knowledge of personal computers including word processing, spreadsheet and database programs.

-Working knowledge of Microsoft Access beneficial.
