Overview

The Financial Specialist provides a full range of products and services to members with an emphasis for acquiring, expanding and enriching member relationships.  The individual in this position must have deep knowledge of financial services and products including all deposit accounts and all self-service products.  They must be able to identify and analyze member needs and desires so that they can adequately recommend UW Credit Union products and services that best match member needs.

Responsibilities

1) Achievement in Balanced Scorecard Results-  50%                                 

a. Meet specified goals for product sales, referrals, and sales behaviors

b. See current year scorecard for details.

 

2) Acquire, Develop, & Build Member Relationships-  40%

a. Consistently educate members about their financial choices.  Appropriately analyzes their needs, and recommends appropriate financial& products and services.

b. Educate members about convenience service options such as online banking, telephone banking and ATM access.

c. Maintain a high degree of knowledge in all credit union programs, ensuring quality service and accuracy is delivered to UWCU members.

d. Provide deposit, consumer and mortgage loan, and money management services to members

e. Actively participate in member “courtesy calling” activities.

f. Actively participate in member “new account follow-up” activities.

g. Exhibit high degree of “mobility” when developing and expanding member relationships

h. Utilize networking skills when developing and expanding member relationships.

i. Demonstrate positive and appropriate behaviors in using UW Credit Union’s “Members for Life” sales model.

j. Consistently meets standards for scored observations and dialogs.

 

3) Contribute to Activities that Promote Individual and Organizational Success-  10%            

a. Responsible for the accuracy of all member transactions as described in UW Credit Union’s Cash Management policies and procedures.

b. Responsible for ensuring that all loan applications and deposit accounts are accurate, complete and appropriate for the member’s request.  Consistently documents member interactions and exceptions.

c. Demonstrates sound judgment in handling member requests and exceptions, seeking and documenting appropriate approval as necessary and applying appropriate UW Credit Union policies and procedures to minimize member risk associated with fraud.

d. Responsible for understanding and adhering to all relevant compliance policies, procedures and regulations.  Completes annual Regulatory Compliance Testings within timeframes designated by the UW Credit Union Audit Manager.

e. Demonstrate professionalism in dress, tone, flexibility, and communication.

f. Consistently act as part of a cohesive team, demonstrating excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to interact positively with other employees and departments.

g. Assume responsibility for personal development through training, collaboration and teamwork.

h. Arrive promptly and prepared to actively participate in dialogs, staff meetings and trainings.  Assume ownership for securing information communicated during personal absence.

i. Responsible for the accurate recording of individual labor hours (working & nonworking) on a timely basis (before current shift ends) through UW Credit Union’s time and attendance systems.

j. Take ownership for change.  Analyze, justify and recommend change in operations to enhance productivity and improve service.

k. Responsible for any additional duties and or responsibilities as assigned by branch manager or other management.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must demonstrate regular, predictable attendance and be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The individual must be able to obtain and maintain a Limited Credit Lines License (WI Credit test #29).  The individual must be, or become, federally registered, and maintain an active federal registration with the National Mortgage Licensing System (NMLS) and Registry.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. - Associates Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Marketing or related field or experiential equivalent of 1 year of experience working in a financial retail environment.

- 1 year of direct retail sales experience.
- Internal Candidates are required to have successfully completed progressions to Sr. Teller.
- Direct experience with the following: new accounts and savings instruments.  Consumer lending experience desired.
- Knowledge of fundamental lending law, concepts and practices.  Ability to interpret lending policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of fundamental savings and certificates concepts and practices.  Ability to interpret savings instruments policies and procedures.
- Demonstrated analytical, accuracy and problem solving skills within a retail sales environment.
- Exceptional customer service skills.
- Strong verbal and written interpersonal communication skills.
- Proficiency with personal computer and office software.
