As a member of the marketing team, the Corporate Communications Specialist will oversee the daily coordination and implementation of media relations, internal communication, and external corporate communication with key audiences. The Corporate Communications Specialist will play a critical role in promoting the UW Credit Union brand and engaging team members across the organization with timely, relevant, brand-aligned communications.
The Corporate Communications Specialist must effectively carry out the essential duties of this position in a manner that consistently demonstrates the core values of the organization in a positive manner.
1) Internal Communications - 40%
a. Work with other members of the marketing team to write and proofread annual social mission report.
b. Write content to support marketing department and business unit needs including emails, letters, intranet posts, video content/scripts, brochures, and other electronic or printed communications as needed.
c. Write and post communications to company-wide intranet.
d. Update and maintain marketing intranet page.
e. Support marketing department in developing, maintaining, and ensuring consistent application of brand standards.
f. Work closely with marketing brand and digital teams to support strategic marketing communications.
g. Collaborate with others throughout the organization to plan and produce business update videos.
h. Support development of communications and collateral around corporate philanthropic events.
i. Prepare and disseminate reports for stakeholders throughout the organization.
j. Develop and deliver marketing department overview for new employee orientation.
k. Support business units in execution of special events (HR open houses, etc).
l. Other duties as assigned.
2) External Communications - 30%
a. Work with brand teams to develop annual editorial calendar for member-facing newsletter; write articles for newsletter; work with creative team as needed during execution.
b. Support community outreach and sponsorship activities by providing content as needed for ads, programs, tabling events, presentations, speeches, web, social media and other channels.
c. Monitor a variety of channels to spot incorrect or outdated information; work with digital team to update information.
d. Support member-facing teams in response to member questions or concerns.
e. Other duties as assigned.
3) Media Relations - 15%
a. Author and distribute press releases and media alerts.
b. Help respond to media inquiries.
c. Monitor, compile and share competitor news, industry news, and UW Credit Union press mentions.
d. Coordinate with the credit union’s retained PR firm as needed.
e. Create and maintain media lists for distribution of releases.
f. Coordinate interviews between credit union resources and members of the media.
g. Other duties as assigned.
4) Partner Relationships - 15%
a. Collaborate with management, peers, and experts throughout the organization, maintain strong relationships and utilize consultative skills.
b. Partner internally and externally to manage relationships and facilitate project execution across all stakeholders in alignment with established goals.
c. Provide informational status update about workload, requests, programs and projects to marketing department managers.
d. Develop recommendations that target specific gaps, differentiate the credit union, and improve results.
e. Partner with marketing leads to define requirements and solve problems.
f. Maintain awareness and understanding of division business initiatives, yearly plans and key performance indicators.
g. Other duties as assigned.
- Bachelors degree in Communications, Public Relations, or related required.
- 2-3 years Copywriting & Proofreading experience required.
- 1-2 years Public relations/media relations required.
- Excellent writing and editing skills.
- Proven ability to develop strong, collaborative internal and external relationships.
- Ability to act independently and exercise initiative in the coordination of work activities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and other computer-based tools.
- Organized, deadline-driven and able to respond to constant changing priorities.
- Presentation/public speaking skills a plus.
- Strong critical thinking skills.
- Experience with project plan development and execution.
