The Accounting Manager - Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) is responsible for providing decision support and management accountability through the development and maintenance of financial reports, analyses, plans, and forecasts.  This position manages the planning, development, and implementation of operational and strategic analyses to aid leadership in long range planning with a focus on optimizing performance.  This position leads the forecasting, modeling, and reporting efforts of the credit union.  Focuses on profit, growth and/or loss analysis in collaboration with other key business partners. The FP&A Manger is accountable to the Vice President and Controller for the coordination of day-to-day department work duties, staffing needs, accuracy of staff work, resolution of operating problems, and the incorporation of appropriate practices into daily processing.


This role is responsible for coaching and developing staff through effective leadership and sound practices guided by the UWCU Performance Management Philosophy.

Must effectively carry out the essential duties of this position in a manner that consistently demonstrates the core values of the Organization in a positive manner.


1. Reporting & Financial Analysis-  45%

a. Prepare and review monthly and quarterly corporate financial reports used by the Executive Team, Board and subcommittees of the Board, senior management, and internal department management.

b. Oversees monitoring of profitability, growth, expense, and loss performance results; alerts management to potential risks or gaps and recommends options for corrective actions or next steps to disseminate information.

c. Manages the creation of highly visible deliverables on behalf of FP&A including product line reviews, monthly and quarterly reports, projections and forecasts, etc.

d. Provides research and analysis of profitability or growth opportunities and assists leaders in understanding key trends in their functions.

e. Manages the development of business performance metrics and reporting packages or dashboards; establishes appropriate metrics for each area and helps govern metric use and goal setting.

f. Acts as subject matter expert representing FP&A in projects or initiatives sponsored by other functional divisions.

g. Secures the required training, tools, and technologies required within the team to meet business needs and expectations

h. Identifies and leads the effort to implement the most appropriate means of measuring initiative progress against desired outcomes.

i. Acts as subject matter expert on the quarterly regulatory call report submitted to state and federal regulatory agencies.

j. Develops special reports as requested by departments for financial analysis.

k. Manages financial report delivery enhancements through available software and intranet systems.

l. Provides financial education to other departments to increase knowledge base and communicate corporate performance.

m. Meets regularly with cross-functional business leaders to ensure alignment with strategic financial and operational initiatives.

n. Develops and maintains costing and allocation models to support organizational and product line profitability reporting.


2. Forecasting & Planning-  35%

a. Leads the creation and maintenance of multi-year pro-forma financial plans.

b. Oversees and manages the continued development of Budgeting, Financial Forecasting, Operating Plan and Modeling tools.

c. Develops financial models and analyses to support strategic initiatives.

d. Leads all budgeting, forecasting, financial modeling and reporting initiatives throughout the Credit Union.

e. Prepares the annual business plan in partnership with the VP and Controller and functional leadership throughout the Credit Union.

f. Works with cross functional teams to project and forecast business volumes and utilizes financial models to forecast the balance sheet and Profit & Loss impact.


3. Leadership Expectations-  10%

a. Work with HROD and senior management to select and retain highly engaged employees. Interpret and communicate organizational purpose, critical measures, strategies and progress as it relates to the department and individual team member goals and success. Cascade information. Provide open and transparent communication with team members and departments across the organization.

b. Responsible for developing a staff of highly engaged employees as measured by the annual employee engagement survey.

4. Accounting Team Support-  10%

a. Provides back-up to the accounting operations for critical functions including wires, ACH, etc.

b. Prepares the annual tax returns 990 and 990T. Responsible for remaining current on changes related to these forms and impact of UBIT on UWCU operations.

c. Responsible for accounting functions related to UWCU subsidiaries including attending quarterly board meetings, vendor correspondence, client billings and consolidations.

d. Assist in gathering information for annual financial audits, regulatory audits, and internal audits.

e. Regularly engages in self-development and continuing education to remain abreast of best practices and industry standards.

f. Supports the VP & Controller to develop and drive accounting strategies to ensure individual and team performance consistent with strategic goals, business issues, priorities, and core values.


- Experience with automated accounting systems, general ledger, and spreadsheet software programs.

- Demonstrated analytical skills with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.

- Ability to lead others and interface positively with other departments.

- Strong verbal and written interpersonal communication skills.

- Proficient in Microsoft Products including Outlook, Word, Excel and Power Point.

- Experience with Enterprise Performance Management Systems (EPM) including dashboarding, data warehousing and management reporting.

- Ability to take initiative and function independently, but still support the team.

- Ability to independently develop and analyze alternative solutions and make recommendations.

- Familiar with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
